Derby County one of several Championship sides to lodge offer for Chelsea defender

A report from The Times has claimed that Derby County are one of several Championship sides to have made a move for Chelsea’s out of contract defender Todd Kane, who is also attracting interest from Hull City.

While Derby County are currently fighting to fend off interest from Chelsea in manager Frank Lampard, the Rams are eyeing up a swoop on the Stamford Bridge club as well.

We reported here on The72 that Derby County and Hull City were interested in signing defender Todd Kane this summer, and now, it has emerged that Derby are one of “several Championship sides” to have made a move to try and sign the 25-year-old this summer.

Newly promoted Sheffield United and Aston Villa have also been credited with interest in Kane this summer, but it is unknown whether the Premier League duo have made an approach to try and sign the full-back this summer.

Kane has been part of Chelsea’s loan brigade since making his break into senior football. He has gathered plenty of Football League experience, playing for Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City, Nottingham Forest, Oxford United and Hull City along the way. Kane has also spent two loan spells in the Netherlands with NEC Nijmegen and FC Groningen.

The defender has amassed 88 Championship appearances along the way, also playing 25 times in League One. Kane hs also played for Chelsea’s Under-23s side on 50 occasions but is yet to make an appearance for the Chelsea first-team.
